Abstract

This study investigates the enhancement of chart interpretation skills among students at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Lamongan in regard to literacy and numeracy for the preparation of the Computer-Based National Assessment. The primary focus of the research is the challenges students encounter in understanding and interpreting charts and datasets, which are crucial in various academic fields and are commonly found in computer-based exam questions, especially multiple-choice items, tables, graphs, and statistics related to real-life issues. The main objective of this study is to improve the chart interpretation skills of students through interactive Metabase tutorials combined with drilling practice exercises. These tutorials are designed to engage learners and promote deeper understanding with some questions are multiple-choice and have specific themes. The research employs an experimental method to evaluate the effectiveness of Metabase. Pretest and posttest assessments were conducted to measure improvements in chart interpretation skills. The results indicated a significant enhancement in the skills of students who participated in the Metabase tutorials. Statistical analysis revealed a marked improvement in posttest scores, suggesting that the interactive nature of the Metabase tutorials effectively fosters better comprehension and application of charts and datasets. This study demonstrates that integrating Metabase tutorials into the curriculum significantly improves the chart interpretation skills of students at MAN 1 Lamongan. This approach not only enhances learning outcomes but also encourages active participation and critical thinking among students, highlighting its potential for broader application in educational settings.
