Pesantrenpreneur: An Effort to Foster the Entrepreneurial Interest of Students at Nurul Ikhlas Islamic Boarding School, Candi Sepande Sidoarjo, East Java

Islamic boarding schools are educational institutions that can help students establish their identities. Besides religious knowledge, Islamic boarding schools could encourage other skills and abilities of the students, such as entrepreneurship. It is crucial to accelerate the development of human resources to compete in a global competition. This paper aimed to determine the pesantrenpreneur strategy of Nurul Ikhlas Islamic Boarding School, Candi Sepande Sidoarjo East Java, in encouraging their students to nurture a qualified entrepreneurial mindset. This paper used a qualitative approach with a case study method. The data were collected through in-depth interviews. The results indicated that fostering students' entrepreneurial interests is necessary to help them explore their potential besides religious learning. By providing examples and encouragement in entrepreneurship, it is hoped that students will become more interested in entrepreneurship and be able to evaluate the potential, market segmentation, and demands of consumers with various behaviors. In this paper, students were provided with soap-making ingredients, from raw materials to usable finished goods. Soap is essential to maintain health, especially in Islamic boarding schools. Even if they are unable to sell the product at the introductory of the entrepreneurship, it can be used by their community or the students themselves.
