Abstract

The increase in global population has led to an increase in waste production, especially from food packaging, which causes serious environmental problems. Through education and training, this study seeks to address the challenges of designing mangrove flour products with sustainable packaging in Gunung Anyar District, Surabaya. The program, which was implemented on August 2, 2022, aims to improve the knowledge and skills of local entrepreneurs in the field of sustainable packaging. The training included theoretical presentations and practical exercises on the use of biodegradable and recyclable materials. Participants were introduced to a variety of environmentally friendly packaging options, including cardboard boxes and kraft paper containers. The main benefits of the program include reducing plastic pollution, increasing environmental awareness, and increasing product value. The project is a joint effort between UPN "veteran" East Java and the local community, to incorporate sustainability elements into product development. An evaluation and follow-up plan were developed to measure the effectiveness of the training and ensure long-term effectiveness. The study concluded that the program was successful in encouraging participants' understanding and use of environmentally friendly packaging, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability and regional economic growth. Future efforts should focus on ongoing training, technical support, and policy recommendations to further encourage sustainable practices. In addition, strengthening public education on environmental protection and the development of innovative packaging solutions will support the wider adoption of sustainable practices, ensure the protection of natural resources, and possibly improve the quality of life for future generations. Continuous engagement and regular evaluation with local stakeholders will further strengthen the transition to sustainable packaging practices.
